Making money: Is it naturally programmed in our Genes

Money makes the world go round; Money is the roots of all evil, Money doesn’t change you, it changes the people around you.

There are so many sayings when it comes to money; it’s difficult to know where to start. Money is one of the most emotive subjects on this planet, we all need it, but we have a love hate relationship with it.

We aspire to be wealthy, but we despise the Rich, so what is it about money that can exert such power over our lives, after all, money is only a tool, a necessary tool, but a tool none-the-less, a tool used in the exchange of goods and services.

Thousands of years ago, our ancestors exchanged shells to barter for goods and services. But as they began to trade, conch shells evolved and were then replaced by precious metal and later by IOU’s such as coins and paper which were exchanged for precious metal.

What we aspire to, is not necessarily wealth Per Sa, but what it brings; for most of us, this means freedom, the freedom to choose, the freedom to realize dreams and to truly be the people we wish to be. However, for some, no amount of money will ever be enough, and these people will never be happy, unless they are forever chasing the next million.

“A million here, a billion there, and pretty soon you’re talking real money.” Everett Dirksen.

For some people, having money equates to having power and influence, the power to purchase what you desire, whether it’s the best clothes, the best automobile expensive foods, the women/men of our dreams, they say money don’t buy love, but it can be rented for a time.

But why do some people find it easy to make money, while others struggle all their lives, and dies penniless? Why do some highly educated people, only just manages to make a living, while the real money eludes them, and most of the famous money makers are barely educated.

Andrew Carnegie began his working life at the age of 13, the rest is history.

Cornelius Vanderbilt Quit School at 11years old (saying “if I had learned education, I would not have had time to learn anything else”)

Rockefeller started out as a wholesale grocer, and went on to found Standard oil, which at its peak, had about 90 per cent of the market for refined oil. So why do some people succeed in making money and others do not. Is it:

1. Luck; being in the right place at the right time? Stumbling upon an idea that people are willing to pay money to possess.

2. An innate ability; to recognise the opportunity when it presents itself

3. Genetics; Some people are born with the ability to make money no matter what, and will always make money even if they should loose what they already have

4. Motivation; Can we be motivated to create wealth? Some people come from a life of abject poverty, to accumulate indecent amounts of money, but others with similar humble beginnings may not do so well.

5. Dogged determination; the inability to accept defeat, going for what you want, no matter what the cost

6. Family Fortune; Are we more likely to make money if our family already have money.

Rebecca, I guess it's all relative, some people need much more to be happy, for others there will never be enough.

Not even the dead presidents were able to take it with them.I hope you're having a wonderful day

tobusiness, my son makes 3 times what I make. He is a highly successful web developer in Atlanta and he constantly borrows money from me. Theory? The more we make the more it takes! He is only 28 though so maybe he will learn. Loved your Hub. I always like to call money pictures of dead presidents....just for fun~

I don't think it's genetic. I think it happens out of desperation to adapt to ones environment.

Something in the brain has to snap.

Rasta1, I'm with you on this one, but is perseverance, determination, stubbornness and the will to succeed learned or inherited?

Hi Jamie, A lot of people are wealthy even when they are not sure where their next meal will be coming from. I believe the greatest wealth is when you are happy within yourself.

However, we still have to pay the bills, and its amazing how fast being in debt can break up a happy home. It sounds like you've been through the mill but you've emerged from the other side knowing what is really important, not everyone gets it.

I truly aspire for the basics for my family, after almost losing everything and living with my inlaws, I have realized that I have worked for more than just wealth in my life, or maybe just a different kind of wealth.
