Tips to Make Money

“The real source of wealth and capital in this new era is not material things. It is the human mind, the human spirit the human imagination, and our faith in the future.”

(Steve Forbes) billionaire publisher

Making money requires a positive attitude, the right mindset and believing in yourself. Our ability to earn more money can be as simple as being more confident.

According to Ailsa Frank a hypnotherapist, who is helping people make positive changes in their lives with the use of hypnosis, most of us have all the resources we need for a fantastic lifestyle. The problem is, we are so busy rushing around focusing on what we haven't got that we don't realise it.

However; since you're reading this you are already one step ahead of the crowd, you are already focused on making money, you already have the right mind-set. What is needed is ideas, good and honest ways to make money without getting your fingers burnt, here are some great money making tips for you.

Make Money by Drawing: How to make Money as an Artist

A few years ago I was visited by a young man who knocked on my door, he was carrying a pile of sketches and paintings in his arms. At the time, my husband and I lived in the country side, not the easiest place to get to, but this young man was determined to sell his work and was prepared to do the leg work.

I bought several pieces of his work as did many of my neighbours. Some artist make money by drawing and painting portraits and landscapes of local areas which they then sell to the people living in those areas. Many of us would love to have a painting or sketch of our homes, family members or of our favourite pets, someone did an amazing cartoon drawing of my husband which I loved and thought was brilliant.

If you are handy with a paint brush or pencil and want to earn some money in these difficult times, you could start by setting up a blog or Hub Page, this is not difficult to do. For hubs, you can start by joining right here, write about art or painting and show your work. You can start a blog, I find Blogspot.com or wordpress.com relatively easy to use.

The world is nothing if not inspiring, with a little talent and much savvy, you can turn all that inspiration into art that people will want to buy. Once you've started your blog, your confidence will grow and people will begin to like your work. When you've gained a following, this is the time to start looking at sites such as Big Cartel, DeviantArt and Etsy, these are sites that allow sellers of all kinds (not only artists) to place work for sale. If you are really creative, you can use sites like Cafe Press to upload your designs and get your work printed on T-shirts, bags and mugs to bring in more money, If you are really passionate about your illustrations, this could be a very lucrative way to start your career.

Make money Online with Paid Surveys

The web is still a good place to start earning money online, it offers a wealth of opportunities. One way to get started is by using survey websites like Yourgov.com, SurveyMonkey,Inc, Toluna.com, Survey Savers, Global Test Market and Opinion Outpost. These sites will reward you for your opinions with cash or vouchers. After registering on the website, you will be sent surveys that are tailored to your personal profile, payment range from 10p to £2.00 per survey with chances to win various prizes. While this may not be for everyone it is one way to start earning online with a minimum of effort.

Rent Don't Buy

Rent your car

You can make money by renting out your car to other drivers in your area. But is this a good idea? well... If you are not making full use of your car, you could allow people who are living close to you, the use of it on the days you are not actually using the vehicle. Some people are finding it cheaper and less hassle running a car, they would rather rent than buy a vehicle.

The majority of people are happy to rent a car when they go away on vacation, or when the vehicle is in the garage for maintenance, but more people are discovering that they can also rent instead of buy, and the inconvenience and expense of owning a vehicle can be avoided.

People living in busy cities often find it easier to leave the car at home and commute to work. Some make use of bikes or public transport, although many do own a cars, it is mainly used at the weekends. There are ways to make your car pay for its upkeep, you can do this by renting and charging by the hour or the day.

Renting will allow you to make money on an asset that is otherwise depreciating in value and costing money sitting idly on your driveway. Hopefully, you would have read my article on peer-to-peer lending websites like Zopa where lenders can lend money directly to borrowers. This is a similar principle, but instead of lending money you can rent your car to a stranger and earn around £30 to £50 per day. EasyCar Club is a national car club aimed at people who are looking to make some extra money by renting their cars to people in their area who are looking to rent.

EasyCar Club is part of the easyGroup. According to an article in Guardian Money recently, “EasyCar Club owners says car owners who have used its services have typically made around £1,000 per year without too much effort, and the company is confident about the future.” Cars are insured by easyCar Club while on hire, therefore, it doesn't affect the owner's insurance. To qualify, car must be 10 years old or less and in insurance group 1 to 32 with less than 120,000 miles on the clock and worth less than £25,000.

The owner is able to block the days they may need to use the vehicle for themselves and choose when to take bookings. The service is managed via the website and is free to join as the firm attempts to build up renters across the country. Zipcar and City Car Club are also UK site where you can rent out your car. The sites takes between 10% to 15% commission from the money earned. For more information see individual websites. The budding entrepreneur may even want to start his/her own rent not buy business if the idea has not yet taken off in their local area.

Rent out your stuff

More people than ever before are looking for ideas on how to make money and reduce their expenses. People are prepared to rent most things these days, they want access to various tools and equipment without owning them. They are renting instead of buying.

Environmentalists has been telling us for years, that we should reduce our impact on the planet, we can help to do this by borrowing the things we only need to use occasionally. Manufacturing new products requires a huge amount of energy and resource, the fewer products we buy, the less resources companies will need to use, whether this is done by reducing packaging, petroleum, minerals, rubber or metal, we can help to lessen our impact on the environment and one way to do this is by renting instead of buying.

Dig around the house, you may find the old wedding, birthday or Christmas gifts you've forgotten about, or seldom use, stuff you've packed away thinking you may need in the future, and are now taking up valuable space can earn you money. Studies show that the average power tool is used for only about 30 minutes in its life time, renting or borrowing makes sense and can also save you money. Websites like rentmyitems.com, loanables.com, snapgoods.com will allow you to rent out stuff such as:

  • Nail guns and other power tools
  • Out door bar-be-cues
  • Mobility scooters
  • Children bikes
  • Mountain bikes
  • Trampoline
  • Motor Scooters
  • Cameras
  • Video Equipment
  • Computers and Laptops
  • Electronics Equipment

Sell your used books

No longer a student!!.. So what do you do with all those expensive text books you'd like to see the back of and care less about, well you can sell them. One man's junk is another student's hope for the future. If your books are rare and in good condition you can make some money by selling on sites such as chegg.com, Zapper and frugaliving.about.com. Zappa also accepts DVDs, CDs, and games, they claim to accept more books at better cash prices than anyone else.

Hosting foreign students

If you need a little extra cash and you have a spare room in your home but don't necessarily want the inconvenience of letting long term, you can choose to host students who are learning English as a foreign language. Foreign students usually stay in the country for approximately six weeks, a short time, but this can be a chance to try out hosting to see if it is for you. It's also worth looking at university students and visiting lecturers who can be in the country for up to six months at a time. There are lots of colleges, English language schools, social clubs and university all around the country with foreign students looking for places to stay while studying.

Hosting may not bring in a full time income, but it's well worth the effort. Many language schools run summer programs for teenage foreign students, if you are thinking of hosting, and resides close to a university you can visit their website to find the accommodation office, if there isn't a section on hosting foreign students, try giving them a call and find out how you can get involved. Hosting holiday makers from all over the world is also a good way to make money.
